Maharashtra is set to hold its General Assembly elections on November 20, 2024, just a few years after the last polls in 2019. The 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections saw the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerge victorious, but an internal rift caused Shiv Sena to break away. This led to the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance between Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, with Uddhav Thackeray becoming the chief minister.
However, in 2022, Eknath Shinde, along with 40 Shiv Sena MLAs, aligned with the BJP, forming a new government with Shinde as the chief minister. The situation became even more complicated in 2023 when Ajit Pawar split from the NCP and joined the ruling alliance.
