Maharashtra Elections to be Held Again?

Date:

Maharashtra is set to hold its General Assembly elections on November 20, 2024, just a few years after the last polls in 2019. This election will decide who gets to represent the state’s 288 constituencies in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, with results coming out on November 23. Given the recent political shifts in the state, this election could lead to significant changes.

The 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections saw the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerge victorious, but an internal rift caused Shiv Sena to break away. This led to the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance between Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, with Uddhav Thackeray becoming the chief minister.

However, in 2022, Eknath Shinde, along with 40 Shiv Sena MLAs, aligned with the BJP, forming a new government with Shinde as the chief minister. The situation became even more complicated in 2023 when Ajit Pawar split from the NCP and joined the ruling alliance.

The outcome of these elections will be crucial, with political alliances, party splits, and recent developments all coming into play. It will be interesting to see how Maharashtra’s political map gets redrawn once again.
