Who is Nitu Chandra?

Nitu Chandra (born June 20, 1984) is an Indian actress, film producer, theatre artist, classical dancer, and sportsperson. She is actively involved in promoting basketball in India through her close association with the NBA and holds a fourth Dan black belt in Taekwondo.

How did Nitu Chandra’s journey begin?

Nitu was born into a Bhojpuri-speaking family and attended Notre Dame Academy in Patna before completing her undergraduate studies at Delhi’s Indraprastha College. She attributes her accomplishment to her mother, who is from East Champaran in Bihar. Nitu began modelling after college and possesses two Dan black belts in Taekwondo, having represented India at the 1997 World Taekwondo Championships in Hong Kong.

Nitu Chandra made her Hindi film industry debut in 2005 with “Garam Masala,” where she portrayed Sweety, an air-hostess. In 2006, she acted in the Telugu film “Godavari.” Her notable Hindi film appearances include “Traffic Signal” (2007) and “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” (2008). She also starred in the Tamil hit “Yavarum Nalam” (2009).

In 2011, she produced “Deswa,” a Bhojpuri film directed by her brother Nitin Chandra. Nitu has explored international cinema, including a role in the Greek film “Home Sweet Home” (2013), for which she learned and dubbed in Greek. She also appeared in the Hollywood show “Gown and Out in Beverly Hills” in 2020.

Nitu Chandra is also known for her brand endorsements, having been the brand ambassador for Gitanjali’s Hoop and appeared in commercials for Mysore Sandal Soap. She has featured in several music videos, including Ismail Darbar’s “Rasiya Saajan” and Bombay Vikings’ “Aa Raha Hoon Main.”

Nitu made his theatrical debut in 2013, portraying the title character in “Umrao.” She has hosted “Rangoli” on DD National since May 2017 and is the Community Ambassador for the Patna Pirates in the Pro Kabaddi League. She appeared on the cover of Indian Maxim’s January 2009 edition and was featured in a 3D mobile game, “Nitu — The Alien Killer,” in 2008.
